Monnig Meteorite Gallery
To facilitate education in, and advance the current-state of knowledge of, the origins and history of our Solar System through public outreach, research, and growth of the Collection.
The Monnig Meteorite Collection and Gallery also strongly believes in, and helps to implement, the overall mission of TCU: to educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community.
When Oscar Monnig died in 1999, a considerable amount of money was given to the Geology Department at TCU from his estate with the purpose of maintaining the collection. On Saturday, February 1, 2003, the Oscar Monnig Meteorite Gallery was opened for the public. With about 10% of the best meteorites in the collection on display, this is a world class facility. The gallery is located in the Sid Richardson Science Building on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
